The whole mount for the tail light/ indicators on my '78 has recently become loose.
On the weekend I took it apart and found the parts on the rubber mount that poke through the holes in the steel mount have sheared off and, because the diameter of the holes in the mount are greater than the diameter of the nuts, the mount is no longer being held on.
I had a couple of thoughts on repair. I could weld a washer with a smaller diameter hole onto the plate then just bolt it in place using the existing nuts. I have considered that vibration may be an issue. I know it can be considerable as my previous mount sheared through top to bottom just from vibration.
My other idea is a bit more cumbersome and involves making some rubber washers with central holes to take the existing sleeve then using a steel body washer under the nut.
Anyone done this repair? All comments welcome.
