My stepson and I have just rebuilt his CT90 motor. I left him to put the clutch back of with new tab washer and 2 new stainless phillips head cover screw. Ran OK for a short while then crunching. Took the R case off and found the clutch lever had snapped in half. Also noticed one of the new screws missing and the other loose. He obviously didnt do them up tight. The bike was lying on its side as per normal and I could see the screw down in the indentation in the lower crankcase. Tried a magnet but the new screw is non magnetic (stainless). Then tried long nose pliers but screw disappeared towards the left (rear) and into the transmission case so was not retrievable.. On reassembly and starting the bike there is a grinding when I try to ride it forward. Looks like I'll be disassembling and splitting the case.
In this instance the screw was already down there but it would be possible to drop one when doing the clutch. From now on I'm going to stuff some rag down there to prevent this possibility.
