Have been struggling with getting this 84 ct110 to run, first I cleaned the gas tank and replaced the fuel lines, blew out the on off valve, it had rust in the reserve line, got the thing started and it started with the choke open, and as it warmed up had to give it more and more choke, so took off the carb and cleaned it. The float bowl had rust in it bad, used steel wool to clean it out, used spray cleaner and air hose to clean openings, everything seems to be open, so put her back together, and then I couldn't get her to start, because the clutch doesn't seem to want to hold. So I read through the clutch repair thread, took that apart and the clutch looks barely used. Used brake cleaner spray to clean the discs, and blew it off with air, but the discs still don't look dry, assembled it and was considering whether to soak it with oil before putting it in. The strap tool will not work if the outside is oily, so would prefer to just install it without soaking. Now I'm wondering if the PO used just car motor oil, and that is what makes the clutch slip? There is black crud coating the bottom of the crankcase, used a can of spray lube trying to wash it out, but can't do much to the crankcase from the clutch opening. Suppose I'll have to wait till it runs and just change the oil soon after getting it running. Does the motorcycle oil make a difference to your clutch?
