Doug150 wrote:Did that discovery involve walking down the road with a gas can in your hand?OOPS ! BT , DT , I need to install my spare gas canteen .I spent several hours tinkering yesterday after work : took off the exhaust & fuel tank to replace the condenser (thanx Tim for the spare !) , tested the coil , it was fine @ 1.9 Ohms on the button .Trimmed off 13 MM of the plug wire , tested the plug cap , it's dead on @ 5,000 Ohms .Checked the various bullet connectors in the frame cavity whilst the battery was out , two of the bullets to the up graded rectifier were so corroded , I couldn't force them apart so I lopped them off and used red butt connectors .One flag terminal on the rectifier came off it's wire so I replaced that .Looked in the carby , no crud atall , clean as a whistle , still on a # 65 main jet , raised the floats just a *tad* buttoned it back up , lowered the slide needle's clip one notch to raise the needle , it still bogged/stuttered at 2/3 throttle but maybe a bit less so I decided I have no idea and took a test ride to see if I can ride it as - is and Lo ! it runs fine again .I took off uphill and it pulled O.K. , not great but didn't miss a beat so I rode it for 45 minutes or so around town and it didn't miss at idle in gear during long stop lights etc. .I'm not quite sure which thing I did fixed it (if indeed it's fixed) , before fixing the corroded connectors I had 6.7 VDC @ idle and 7 + VDC the instant it revved , .028 VAC at any speed . load , lights on or off , the headlight remained bright and the horn tooted well .I still have to check the timing with the engine running and open the spark plug up to .030 again but mayhap it's good to go .I rode it to work to - day @ 0-Dark:30 , all seems well , even the wretched Chinese headlight is working , nice and bright (Japanese Stanley bulb) high and low beams , for a change .Of course , just so I don't get complacent the 1912 Maxwell Klaxon horn fell off (bracket broke) just as I was cresting a hill @ 45 MPH in the bad part of town.....No rest for the guilty I guess .

Also, I fabricated rear panniers out of some Touratech bags I had lying around. Last addition prior to leaving will be a Postie front rack, water bottle holder and auxiliary fuel tank. My top speed on flat with no headwind is 45-47mph and I'm 250lbs and 6'5". Never seem to need 4th gear, it just pulls my speed down. I've been commuting 42 miles/day for the last few weeks and have had no trouble with the bike...wish I could say the same about my back. Hurts so damn bad I need meds. Not sure it's the bike that caused it though as I've always had a funky back. Had the same problem with my BMW GSA and Victory Cross Country. Hope I don't have to give up riding.
