I soldered up and repaired cracks in an old brass float assembly. I used a heat gun to heat up the chambers to expand the air and drive out the old gasoline. Then I used some emery cloth to clean and brighten the brass metal and used a dab of acid flux along with some rosin core electronic solder. I was worried about the rosin core but it did not matter. With a 100 watt soldering iron, the solder flowed easily around the cracked areas. I saved at least twenty bucks over buying a new float assembly and brought an old carburetor back from the dead.
