The Bottom Line is that Selenium is toxic.

In Great Britain its considered lethal, which is a much worse rating than in the United States, where it is rated as just "toxic". The United States EPA will not allow one part per million in your water.

Honda rectifier plates are coated in Selenium compounded with who-knows what else. I lack the chemistry setup it would take to measure how much Selenium, or what else is compounded in it, or how horrible it might be to me as a human being, but as a professional and friendly technician it seems fair to share the news: Selenium is toxic.

Honda rectifiers are made of Selenium, thus I consider them TOXIC.

When I was a kid working in a TV shop, I replaced Selenium rectifiers all the time. Many times I got sick afterwards, which motivated me to learn.

Wash your hands. Get rid of the old thing.
