While you are rewiring, you should replace it with a new Silicon rectifier. There's a sticky at the top of the Electrical page that tells how.

I already touched it to remove it... how can you tell it is toxic?  I already put on a new one from DRATV... I had the question about grounding it in a previous thread that I believe you replied to.  How should I go about disposing of the old one if it is toxic?
