Guess it's really a 1975 instead of 1974?? s/n CT90-1601276 would indicate 1975 but the mfg plate says 7/74. Maybe it was manufactured 7/74 for the 1975 market?

Correct.

Just like the automakers, production can start as early as June or July for the next year. Especially true with the Japanese motorcycle makers as they quickly discovered that in the U.S. motorcycles were often given as December X-Mas gifts. So, they wanted to make sure their U.S. dealers had plenty of the next year's versions on the dealer's showroom floor.

The "16" after the hyphen indicates the version or year, in your case a 1975 K6 (the last year for CT's that the "K" designation was used) and the remaining digits are the production number, in your case you have the "01276" or 1,276th 1975 CT90 K6 manufactured.

Paved roads, just more needless government spending...
