Discovered that the new carburetor I ordered won't fit my '66.....too low and strikes the valve access plug. Cleaned up and installed the original four screw carburetor. Installed the cleaned out tank and plumbed new fuel lines. Double checked my repair of a bad bullet (ignition) connector, hooked up my new battery, uttered a prayer to our blessed lady of internal combustion and kicked it over........

It fired on the third kick, coming alive after a twenty year sleep. Idle kept rising and falling because the twist grip was not returning to idle position easily. I pulled the grip and discovered the aluminum piece in the handlebar was worn on one side, causing a "wedging" effect. No wonder it was so hard to turn! Ordered replacement part. Made mental plans to order new rims/spokes for future rebuild.

Enough for one day......time for a brew!
