I had the head rebuilt 06/28/13. I finally got a chance to put it on today. It doesn't work. no compression. strange sounds from the exhaust port. if you stick your finger in the exhaust port and rotate the engine forward, you feel suction past your finger on the intake stroke, pressure coming out past your finger on the compression stroke, suction past your finger on the power stroke and a wimpy gust of air on the exhaust stroke. it's apparent the exhaust valve isn't sealing.

I get better compression with the original 1980 head that hasn't been worked on since 1980. I was planning on sending that head in for a rebuild, now I have to wonder.

there goes having it running by memorial day.

The sub trans thing: if you put a set of calipers on the countershaft end, then pull them straight off the end, they hang up at the end. the end of the shaft was mushroomed. hours of three fingered hand sanding on the end of the shaft.
