went to every hardware store in town ( 2, or 3, depending on your definition ) Got the stainless steel screws I really need, as opposed to the mismatched mishmash I got by mail order.

got the rings on, got the piston in the cylinder, got the cylinder on the studs. while inserting the two 6 MM screws on the left side, I heard a soft chuckling sound. This was quite unnerving, as I was home alone.

I traced the chuckling sound to the gasket envelope, where the cylinder base gasket was laughing at me. undid everything, put the cylinder base gasket on. reassembled, almost got the cylinder on, heard uproarious laughter. looked close and saw I had the cylinder base gasket upside down. undid everything, put the cylinder base gasket on the right way. reassembled for the third time.

tried to put the head on. discovered that the cam sprocket screw holes lined up lined up directly on one tooth when installed one way, and the screw holes lined up on the gap between two teeth when installed the other way.

Then I discovered that you have to put the sprocket on the cam, then put the cam in. but you can't because the hole for the sprocket is smaller than the sprocket.

Then I realized that Andrea and Tiffany and Natalya are working at the restaurant, and I need to do some research into these problems. So I'm in the El Camino eyeballing fine young things half my age ( fine ladies my age are "well pickled" ) and freeloading off the wifi.

And I did put the head gasket on the right way before I put the head on.
