Just a followup, did you get the bike to run with the headlamp on?

I haven't done anything since I last posted, but sometimes I turn on the switch to see what's happening. The problem is intermittent. It isn't stalling the engine anymore, but the headlamp is very very dim. The filament barely glows at all. I think there may be a wire that's lost it's insulation and is shorting to the frame. With vibration and movement, the short is varying the amount of current shunted to the frame. I'm guessing at times it's enough to stall the engine. One time I flipped the switch and the headlamp was working perfectly. That hasn't happened since though.
