I just discovered that my 1970 K2 CT90 is actually a 1969 K1 CT90! When I bought the bike a couple months ago it was advertised a 1970. The title said 1970. The registration said 1970. When I went to the Ca. CHP for a VIN verification, no problem or mention that it's not a 1970. I didn't know about this site or the treasure trove of info here. Well, I've bought a few parts for my "K2" that don't fit. The new air filter is nothing like a K2. When I got the ct110 hose from the carb to the air filter "required" for the new PZ22. No way it would work. So I started trolling the site and checked the CT90 photos by year. Voila its really a 1969. Don't really care. I still like the bike, and now I know how to order the correct parts.
So, in the past 2 weeks, I replaced the worn out tires with new Shinco Golden Boy SR244's. 3.00 rear, 2.75 front. Great tires, more aggressive tread and great street manners. Very satisfied. Tires and tubes for $76 delivered. Replaced the rear shocks with coil overs from Dr.ATV. New speedo cable. New mirrors. Radio Shack rectifier update. New battery. Rewired the battery harness. and connectors. Painted all the gray plastics (still looking for the correct paint for the "Scarlet Red' parts.
My original Kehin" carb has given me fits since I bought the bike. Tore it down twice and cleaned it. Could never adjust it right to run well. I bought a PZ22 after market carb from webllc for $23 as recommended by 1974K5. What a deal! Put it on with no adjustments and it fired on the first kick and purred like a kitten! I don't even want to adjust it! Went on a 26 mile ride without a single problem. Ran strong and idled perfectly. What a great day. I can't recommend this carb enough if your frustrated with your original carb, however, it's not without issues when put on a K1. The problem often described that the carb to air cleaner width is different and requires a CT110 hose isn't correct for a K1. The matchup is correct. The problem is the larger barrel on the PZ22 won't mate with the smaller original hose. I tried to solve this problem by placing the clamp where the carb and hose meet. Seems to work fine, but I believe l'll put a piece of black duct tape on the union to assure it stays that way. Then there is the issue with the slightly taller throttle body. This causes fitment problems with the frame plastics. I can live with both these issues in exchange for the better running carb. Anyway, it's been a good week for me and my "new" K1 CT90. I'm so happy! Thanks "1974K5".
