Dave I will try to get some temps for you as well. I wonder how much more heat the big bore engines produce, even when standard compression? Sort of tough to tell now though, since our temps here in the Seattle area dropped down quite a bit as you know.

I rode my CT up to my parents house today. I took a chance and got on the highway. Wow, the little CT will hang 60mph no problem now on a mostly flat surface. Actually had to ease off on the throttle a few times because it wanted to go past the 4th gear mark on the speedo. Going up a hill is asking for angry tailgaters though!

I was not sure how much more power I was actually making. I visited my friend yesterday and took his CT out, and was pleased to find mine has significantly more power than his, and his is in really good condition. So I'm pleased.

I now realize that some of the bike's shifting issues before the rebuild were resolved. When I tore down the case, the little three-bearing thrust unit on the outside of the clutch was mangled and trashed in every single way. New one from a member here, plus the healthy oil pressure from cleaning that clogged screen, and the bike shifts well enough now that I don't have to "mash" the pedal to downshift. A very gentle press and it shifts very smoothly. I had to mash it before sometimes to get it to downshift to 1st when coming to a stop, and some times it would absolutely not do it.

I did buy fiber discs for the clutch so that I could do that during the rebuild, but I haven't seemed to need them yet.

Seems to be running extremely well now with no mechanical issues. I think I probably have the bike dialed in now.

The only problem I'm having now is that my turn signals flash so fast when the RPMs are up, that they almost don't flash at all. Let the RPMs drop a little and they run fine. I haven't checked to see if there is an overvolt condition, but the RS rectifier is in good shape. I'm thinking about replacing the mechanical flasher with a solid-state unit, and see if that handles the voltage variations better.

I just want to thank everyone here for the great resource.  There's no other way I would've been able to get this almost 45 year old bike running as well as it is.
