I have discovered I have to check timing after running the motor the first few minutes after rebuild. I suspect it changes from being timed on the bench because K1's have the hydraulic timing chain tensioner. It seems to be running fairly well back and forth to work. I'll take your idea and carry my point and shoot thermometer with me.
