Had the same problem on my big bore rebuild Dave... Seized up on the first ride after I got done giving the rings an initial break-in. I had a couple other issues, but basically it was running too lean, and I had advanced the timing a little too much somehow. I rode it around with an IR thermometer to keep tabs on it as I tuned it. I moved the idle jet from 35 to 38 (its now 75/38) and put the needle clip at the second from bottom position. I tried running it in the lowest position, but I was getting soot buildup behind the exhaust, and it had an off-idle stumble.

Bike has run great for the last several rides. I was finally able to ride it to my favorite jogging track again today.

The dang thing won't go easy on me though.. I rode it yesterday, and just before I got home, the throttle cable broke for the second time. I soldered it a little bit more generously this time.

I was actually hoping to get over on the ferry and ride it in Seattle before the weather gets bad.

Now when I can be sure that it's 100% reliable, I can start on the cosmetic stuff and plastics. I have all of the 1970 factory decals and paint that appears to match.. The trailing arms need to be painted as well, as the PO let the battery drip down on the right side and pock-marked the paint.
