Interesting.

Unfortunately, on our low cost forum, I have no control over that configuration.
Sorry.

Here's my observation though...

The forums that I've seen using that set-up, always seem to have new message posters that are not current with the previous messages in the thread and often seem to just repeat previous messages over again. Saying the same thing, over and over, seems to me to be just a waste of time for everybody.

I'd prefer to not have any forum member have to wade through multiple posts that say the same thing to find any possible real solutions, especially in any of The Repair Shed categories. I find that type of message posting practice not acceptable. Saying thanks for a ride report or event report is one area where repeating a "thanks" is acceptable. Perhaps in The Campfire and any other other fun, non-technical categories, as well.

My basic philosophy is "For responding to questions, it's often best to read everything already said in that thread and if you have a new comment, make a new message at the end of the thread by clicking on the "REPLY" button. If your comment is something that has already been covered (and you're read the basic same thing already in that thread), then simply move on to read the other threads on the forum that you are interested in."

And, a forum tip...

If you ever want to just get to the last message in a thread, here's the thing I do...

If I've been an active viewer or posted a message in a thread and can remember all of the previous posts, then I click on the last little page number under the thread title at the category level... before I enter the thread, and whoosh, I'm at the last page of that thread and can then scroll down, like English readers - read a page of type - scrolling down, to get to the last message.

If I'm unfamiliar with the thread messages and what has already been covered, then, as a service to all the other forum members, I consider it my responsibility to go back and read all of the previous messages, and get my self "up to speed". Then and only then am I qualified to post a message.

Paved roads, just more needless government spending...
