The main problem is the air flow. On a carburetor w/o computer control, increasing air changes the mixture. So in most cases a re-jetting is in order. For a 7 hp motor I don't foresee a big change so have never messed with stock on mine as Craig says. Now all my cars and trucks and my Silver Wing all have K&N filters. I won't lie to you and tell you I got a 25 hp increase and 50%  better fuel economy.  I just prefer not to pay the dealer 20 bucks each time a new air filter is called for. Cleanable is the big advantage here. Good luck!
