My '76 is at least somewhat alive now...

I bought a new battery (Bikemaster 6V) a couple weeks ago and finally charged it this afternoon.  Obtained a voltage reading of 6.7 - 6.8 V.  Installed battery and checked lights.  Headlight worked fine; all turn signals came on, but did not blink (do I need to have it running for blinking?).  Brake light did not come on (add that to the to-do list!).

Then I got the wild idea to see if it would run, so put enough fuel in the tank to operate the Reserve line (so I didn't have so much to drain later if it didn't work).  Then I discovered...a leak in the reserve fuel line (add that to the to-do list!).  At least someone put inline fuel filters on previously.

Tried to start it (definitely has compression), and did get it to run for a few seconds using starter fluid (ran pretty well, too).  That is the most that thing has run in 14 years!  Came as a bit of a shock, really, that it would run at all.

So, I think I will concentrate on replacing the fuel lines and filters (no clue how long they have been on) and also take a look at cleaning the carb.  I am thankful for the people and information this site has to offer!
