Installed new cam chain, retimed everything, and took it for a spin. Now it hums like it has a blower on it, and no rattle at all. Bike only has 1700 miles but there was evidence of the loose chain hitting the head and cylinder inside the chase. Tensioner was OK and working. I stretched the spring by about 5mm to give it a little more pressure. My bike does not have the lock screw for the tensioner plunger.

I am happy for getting the cam chain installed without pulling the head. I was able to finesse everything in from the alternator side. Need long fingers, a pull wire, and patience.
