I keep reading here about "blue roads".  What are they?

When we lived in WV I had some larger bikes and my wife would ride with me, but after moving to OR in '74 all I had was a 90 that we would still sometimes double up on.  We found doubling up on a 90 was somewhat less than perfect, so in the early 80's I started looking for a 90 for her.  A short time later I found a '71 with 1500 miles on it for-----ready for this?-----$175.00.  It had sat out some and needed a few things, but the basic bike was like new.  About this time I replaced my old 90 with a '73 that had 3000 + miles on it for $300.00.  It came with a charger, manual, and important to me, the "almost a gallon" spare fuel tank mounted on the rear.  I have never had to use it, but there have been times when I was on reserve and it was comforting to know it was there.  It has never been a problem hanging back there in the 9000 miles I have put on the bike, and I would recommend it as a spare fuel source.  We used to license our 90's, but since the 80's to now OR license fees for bikes have gone from $5.00 to $48.00 for 2 years, and it is more than I want to spend.  This year I got off road permits for both bikes which will allow us to ride them on forest roads which is mostly what we did with them anyway. This is another new program which cost $10.00 per bike.  Will it ever end?  I already know the answer to that.  We have two larger bikes for the road now because I finally concluded that sooner or later I was going to get run over if I couldn't keep up with traffic.  One of them will even do "ok" on gravel roads, but IMHO there is NOTHING like a 90 for that.  I love the little things and will probably always have at least one.

Just more blathering.
