Just a couple of pieces of info...

The bike doesn't like to shift when it isn't moving. It helps to rock it a little to get it into gear if it isn't moving. Also the shifting is a little stiff at times and dosn't lend itself to toe up shifting as you would on a more modern bike. That's why there is a "Heel "Toe" shift lever. The problem with the Heel Toe lever is that, although the angle is adjustable, there is almost no position that I can find that allows me to use both my heel and toe. Some folks claim to have found it. I always end up using my toe to press the lever down in front and my toe to press the heel portion down in back as well. I also think that the orental foot is capable of flexing more towards the rear as I have noticed many times by observing the way they can sit on their haunches for long periods of time. Most Westerners can't squat comfortably. Just my theory.
