PhotoBucket has decided to make some changes to 3rd party photo web hosting from free to a cost per month or cost per year basis.
3rd party hosting of photos is one of the common techniques used in a lot of forums and other internet public sites.
3rd party photo hosting is where you store your photos on PhotoBucket or another similar photo hosting web site and they will upload your photo automatically where ever you place the photo on the internet and when ever it is viewed.
PhotoBucket is one of the original 3rd party hosting web sites on the internet.
The past business model was where you or I would see advertisements whenever we visited PhotoBucket to upload and store our photos and the 3rd party hosting service was free up to a certain limit of storage. Larger amounts of storage would be a cost depending on the amount of storage desired.
The new business model is a subscription service (like so many other high tech businesses are doing), even at the lowest storage levels if you want the 3rd party hosting service.
They are currently asking $39.99 per month or a discounted $399 per year at the minimum storage level for 3rd party hosting.
Most of my internet friends that use PhotoBucket are talking about this being A VERY LARGE MISTAKE on the part of PhotoBucket.
They also think PhotoBucket will reconsider this new business model SOON, and go back to the way it used to be... FREE 3rd party hosting at the lower storage levels.
So, I say, lets wait and see what happens with PhotoBucket.
While we wait, there will be some photos that are not gong to be visible to us on the forum if they are being hosted by PhotoBucket.
They will be covered up with a message to upgrade the service at PhotoBucket.
Currently not all forum members photos are experiencing this effect, and not even all of the forum members that are experiencing this effect are having all of their photos show this condition.
It also appears to be a random selection of PhotoBucket users that are being targeted.
So, lets see what happens next with PhotoBucket.
If you are experiencing this situation with your photos, just wait, don't do anything with your photos or your messages right now.
If you are a PhotoBucket user and you are currently experiencing this situation, here is a submit a request web page for contacting PhotoBucket and telling them what is on your mind.
